Contemporary Lighting Design has moved to a brand new site with a brand new look. Many of the services offered from the Site Build It program were simply superior than those I could arrange with just my own little WordPress blog here.

I hope you’ll enjoy the new site a lot more than the current one. The articles are over four times as long and include pictures and diagrams as well as a fully functional e-mail and blogging system.

Lighting design represents the decisions that we make concerning what parts of our room we want people to see. Depending on those decisions, our rooms can provide senses of comfort or joy. Lighting can be used to hide or augment colors and even to alter the shape of a room. In fact, lighting can even be used to generate “light objects” like beams and shadows that can be used as a form of decoration.

Our website is currently divided into a number of different sections:

First, we have a number of articles dedicated to providing the best information on lighting design theory. These articles will help you make decisions about how to best use lighting to illuminate your living and work spaces the way that best suits your life and sense of style. They are predominantly available through the “Design” header in the menu at the top of the page.

Second, we have a number of articles dedicated to the various products that can be used in lighting your home. These articles range from discussions of light bulbs all the way to discussions of different types of lamps and fixtures. Some of these articles are general. For instance, one might discuss how track lighting is used. Other articles are more specific, detailing the features and specifications of individual products. They can be found through the non-design sections of the menu at the top of the page.
